Effective Aug. 1, people 21 and older can possess, use and grow marijuana in Minnesota, according to the state.
On May 30, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill to legalize recreational marijuana for people over the age of 21, which made Minnesota the 23rd state to legalize the substance for adults, The Associated Press reported. Medical marijuana was legalized 2014.
Where can marijuana be used in Minnesota?
Marijuana can be used on private property, unless the owner prohibits the use of marijuana on their property, private residences and at places with approved licenses or an event permit.
It can’t be used when driving, at a public or charter school, on school buses, at correctional facilities, in locations where the smoke, aerosol or vapor could be inhaled by a minor, on federal property and in a multifamily housing building, according to the state.
